
CCW (Concealed Carry Weapons)
In California, carrying a concealed firearm publicly requires a CCW (Carry Concealed Weapon) license. Generally, a U.S. citizen or legal resident 18 years or older can carry a handgun without a permit within their residence, place of business, or on private property they own or lawfully possess. However, carrying a concealed weapon in public requires a CCW license and adherence to specific restrictions.
Obtaining a CCW License:
Eligibility:
You must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident, at least 21 years old, a California resident or have a principal place of employment in the state.
Application:
Apply to the local sheriff's office or police department for a CCW license.
Requirements:
This includes demonstrating good moral character, having a legitimate cause for needing a permit, completing an approved firearms training course, passing a background check and a completion of a psychological evaluation.
